Counseling Update/Message from the Nurse: October 2023

Counseling Updates & Information

In recognition of National Mental Health Awareness Week during the first week of October, our Aevidum Mental Health Club put together daily programming to boost mental health on campus. Each day, a student leader encouraged students to try a new mental health tip as part of our morning announcements. These included connecting with others, experimenting with creative outlets, practicing gratitude, and more. In addition, the club put together a free activity for students each day.
On Monday, students contributed messages of hope and support to our Words of Encouragement Wall, which remained in the cafeteria all week. On Tuesday, we welcomed three awesome therapy dogs from PAWS for People for visits. On Thursday, we transformed the Counseling Center Conference Room into a De-Stress Room, complete with nostalgic movies, tasty snacks, destressing scents, and many stress-reducing activities like coloring, bracelet-making, puzzles, and more. Lastly, Friday was a tag day to benefit organizations that support student mental health. It is our hope that every member of our school community heard or engaged in these valuable activities and messages about the importance of prioritizing mental health.

DEI:
Culture Night

Archmere’s Third annual culture night took place October 13, 2023, and what a wonderful display of culture and community it was!  The following Countries were represented, China, Brazil, Poland, Ethiopia, Italy, France, Nigeria, Cameroon, Cambodia, and India.. Students and families enjoyed food and listened to a live jazz band, and a presentation about our Global Studies Program. Participants were able to engage in cultural activities, such as Calligraphy writing and Chinese Yo- Yo, and enjoyed listening and dancing to  music from around the world, played games commonly played in other countries, such as Loteria, and Ludo, Carom, and Mancala. Each year this event grows, looking forward to learning more about the cultures of Archmere and beyond!

Pulsera Project

The DEI Club participated in a fundraiser during Hispanic Heritage Month. We partnered with the Pulsera Project.  The Pulsera Project is a nonprofit organization that educates, empowers, and connects Central American artists with students in more than 3,600 U.S. schools through the sale of colorful handwoven bracelets, or "pulseras" in Spanish. Pulsera sales fund things like artisan housing programs, secondary education, university scholarships, humanitarian medical aid, disability advocacy, workers' rights initiatives, community radio, women & youth leadership programs, domestic violence shelter support, legal services, social enterprise seed funding, educational films, permaculture projects, and much more. The DEI Club was able to raise over $600.00 to support this worthy cause.
